Methodology
Multi-Sensory
Everyone is saying it, but what does it mean? Have you ever used a crayon on paper placed on top of a bumpy surface? That sensory feedback supports the development of new nueral pathways.
Repeated practice of skills in a variety of modalities strengthens the areas of the brain that house our reading circuitry. So, writing in sand, on sandpaper, in the air? Check. Spelling with sidewalk chalk & shaving cream? You bet. Marching your letter sounds? Always. Combining movement with skill practice? It wouldn’t be multi-sensory if we didn’t.
Research & Data Driven
From a foundation built on two highly researched literacy intervention approaches, combined with a body of research focused on the use of the Socratic apporach to mathematics as well as metacognition strategies; our team combines years of experience, baseline evaluation data, and ongoing data collection procedures to focus lessons on skills that matter & match your child/teens needs.
Each year we collect additional data, which is analyzed and used to inform ongoing programing decisions in order to write the most effective curriculums.
Approach
Whole-child Focused
Learning is 75% emotional & 25% skill acquisition. Affriad of failure? Unwilling to take risks? Low attentional control? Our programs encourage emotional as well as academic growth through embedded metacognition coaching.
Collaborative
Weekly team meetings & progress reportiong allow our teachers to support oneanother in approaching teaching challenges in creative & effective ways. We’re called a “group” and we operate as a team.
What People Are Saying
"I don't know where my daughter would be without Shay and Owl Education. What I do know is that the team at Owl has helped her navigate the challenges that come with dyslexia, ADHD, timed AP essays, math, SAT tests, executive functioning, and college planning. At every turn, the Owl team gave my daughter the support and confidence she needed, and with hard work she has maintained a 4.0 GPA since freshman year. I have watched my daughter's transformation from a defeated, frustrated, overwhelmed 8th grader to a confident, hardworking high school junior in the process of applying to some of the country's most prestigious schools. And she could not have done it without the amazing and committed staff at The Owl Education Group." - Kathy C., Owl Ed. Parent
“My son started working on executive functioning skills at Owl his freshman year. A trusting and respectful relationship was established, and for the first time he was willing to work with someone. Now a senior, I’m not sure how he would have gotten through his high school years without their understanding of his strengths and weaknesses, and the support they provided him.” - Jean A., Owl Ed.
